I’ve recently been working on a joint project with Transforming Narratives and Sampad (Birmingham). Transforming Narratives is a groundbreaking project to establish Birmingham as a leading international centre for contemporary Pakistani and Bangladeshi arts, for the mutual benefit of Birmingham and cities in Pakistan and Bangladesh. I was asked to 2 live embriodery workshops which were broadcast to The Sreepur Village, Bangladesh.
The Sreepur Village – (Shakti) Shakti, meaning feminine power in Sanskrit, is a partnership between Sreepur Village (Bangladesh) and Sampad (Birmingham). This collaboration will enable new forms and ideas of contemporary expression in craft, with an exchange of traditional crafts and motifs practiced by women at Sreepur Village in rural Bangladesh and urban contemporary designs of craft artists in Birmingham.
